Tackle it Tuesday–Green Cleaning my Car

Gone are the days of simply cleaning up after myself. When my husband and I were first married we kept our car neat and tidy. Now, after having two children, I feel more like an archeologist sifting through layers of sediment in the backseat of our car. Look closely and you’ll discover each layer reveals a story of our past. In our backseat I found rain jackets from our last trip to the nursery, class projects, numerous crayons, lots of popcorn kernels, and the most prize winning relic of all….a whole decomposing apple. Maybe OSHA should have taken over and declared the scene a biohazard?
Needless to say, our car needed help! I sucked up all that I could, recycled items and picked up all the toys. I also wanted to use some non-toxic cleaner since my son was helping me clean. We made some homemade cleaning recipes to wipe away the grime.
I used the all purpose disinfectant recipe shown here. I simply mixed 2 teaspoons of borax with 4 tablespoons of vinegar and three cups of hot water. I used an old sock to wipe everything down.
For the windows I mixed 2 teaspoons of white vinegar with 1 liter warm water.
Now I can’t wait to pick up my oldest and see her shock and amazement when she enters the car. Then I can tell her, this is what a car should look like.
