Save The Food
Branding Campaign
2015
Marion County knows that 20% of their garbage consists of wasted food, so they wanted to create a food waste reduction campaign that appealed to residents and encouraged action. I started with food images and created knobby knees and silly arms to make the characters feel playful. I also enlisted my husband to brainstorm food puns that would get attention. The food squad was born and took on a life of their own. I added the passive-aggressive characters in newspaper and magazine ads. With the help of volunteers, I painted the characters and quotes onto a bus stop which was visible to more than 30,795 vehicles daily from August 2015 to February 2016. Other elements that I created were webpages, larger than life cut-outs of characters for photo opportunities, stickers, display banners, and an infographic.
