A Civilized Birthday
I’ve already exposed my inner geek and stated that I along with my husband play civilization. For his birthday we decided to host a Civilized night of good food, good friends and playing Civilization IV. Apparently I’m a newbie at LAN games because I hit the hay at 4pm while the rest stayed up till dawn. The guys were gracious letting me be a part of the game and it’s always nice to catch up with old collage friends even if I can’t stay awake for the whole game.
One thing I learned when planning for a LAN party is to make sure everyone is playing the same version or it takes awhile to update every one’s computers. Also the earlier you start the better.
For the food, I served a bunch of things. There was wine and cheese of course, a veggie tray, chips and dip, chocolate covered strawberries and some bruschetta . The highlight was the cake which was made by Jen Haas of Bittersweet baking. I laid everything out on a shower curtain of all things. I know I am a bit crazy but the rust and gold really looked nice to enhance the worldly, rich feeling. I also added books, a few globes, and some cut outs of maps in apothecary jars with scattered gold chocolate coins. I think it turned out rather well.
Come build a legacy that would stand the test of time: civilization.
