Salem Sketchers

I’m so very thankful to be a part of this supportive group of sketchers, Salem Sketchers. I was invited to the group by Katy Vigeland, artist and owner of the Art Department in Salem in May of 2014. That day, I arrived at the Salem Carousel to find that only the both of us showed up to sketch but it was a lovely way to spend a morning, chatting with Katy and sketching.

Since then our group has gone public and grown. Now we share our events on Facebook and welcome anyone willing to join us at 9am on a Saturday to sketch.

I’ve watched my sketching skills grow as well and my sketches are more plentiful too. I’m not as worried to put pen to paper nor share my artwork with a group of strangers. Being a part of this group has been such a positive force in my life and for that, I am forever grateful to the fine folks who show up Saturdays to sketch and Katy for including me in the first place.
