Largest Peanut Butter Cup, a Tasty Birthday Surprise

Lucky hubby has his birthday every year during Memorial weekend. I tease him that he doesn’t get a birthday, it’s more like a birthweek, or birthweekend. Needless to say, we love to celebrate it with him and enjoy making him feel special.

This year we gave him a few gifts wrapped in newspaper.

creative gift wrappingWe went to see a movie, went to a sing-a-long at the Grand Theater, celebrated with family (Jon made fabulous brats, salads and cake) and made the largest peanut butter cup ever!

recipe to make the largest peanut butter cup, sweetYep folks, it was huge! I added the original Resses peanut butter cup to give you a sense of scale.

After searching online I found some directions to make this huge candy from here. This is what you’ll need.how to make a large peanut butter cup

Parchment paper
Pie Plate
20 oz Chocolate (milk or dark, your choice)
1.5 cups Graham cracker crumbs
3-4 cups Powered Sugar
2 Table spoons melted Butter
1 cup Peanut Butter

Step One: Cut out a circle using parchment paper. Then make the crinkle edges to mimic the original candy. Simply fold the sides of the parchment back and forth accordion style, leaving the same size of radius of the bottom of the pie plate without creases on the parchment.

Step Two: Melt your chocolate. Take about 8oz of chocolate and melt using a double boiler or the microwave.

Step Three: Pour the melted chocolate into the parchment lined pie plate. Put in freezer or fridge to harden.

Step Four:  Add the graham crackers into a food processor or blender. Blend to get fine crumbs.

Step Five: Add the peanut butter, melted butter, graham crackers and powered sugar and mix. Feel free to play around with the contents since I made up my own concoction here. You might want more butter or peanut butter if your mixture is too dry, more powered sugar or less to suit your taste buds.

Step Six: Mold your peanut butter filling in the pie plate. Make sure you leave enough space for the chocolate to drip down the sides but not so much space your have a huge chunk of chocolate and no bite of the yummy filling.

Step Seven: Melt the rest of your chocolate and spread over the filling. Using a spatula make sure the filling is covered. After it is, move the pie plate around a bit, gently bumping it on the counter to remove pockets of air. Place in freezer or fridge to set.

Step Yummy: Serve with a large glass of milk and enjoy!
